KEEP SAFETY IN SIGHT

Most no wake zones are hard to spot. And that’s dangerous for everyone on or near the water in officially designated no wake zones. Our public safety campaign Keep Safety In Sight includes initiatives to establish local and federal standards for marking no wake zones with high-visibility signs and buoys to increase the safety of our waters for all.

Background: The intention of no wake zones is great — they help protect people from injuries, reduce property damage and lessen the environmental impact of recreational and commercial use of our waterways.

Exceeding a safe speed in a no wake zone can not only introduce risks to all of those things mentioned above, but could also come with stiff fines if cited.

Unfortunately, no wake zones are not uniformly marked (if marked at all) on the water. They are also not part of navigation charts or consistently available in electronic chart plotters and applications.

Yes, there are local (hard copy) published notices of no wake zones (usually one-page flyers or trifold brochures available from your local municipal parks offices and USCG). But these are not widely distributed, publicized and are rarely utilized. And even when they are, the use colors and graphics within them indicating no wake zones can be inconsistent and confusing.

Often this puts the burden on private, concerned citizens living along the shoreline within no wake zones to post hand-made or random retail store-bought no wake signs on their property.

Our goal our No Wake Zone public safety initiative is to encourage local and federal safety officials to implement consistent marking for no wake zones (including Federal Aids to Navigation —ATONS) and help keep safety in sight! for everyone enjoying our beautiful waterways.

You can help. How? Contact your local city / county leaders and state representatives to tell them you support making our waters safer by implementing clear and consistent marking of no wake zones in our waterways. You can also like, share and comment these public safety issues on social media. Additionally you can make a tax-deductible donation to our initiative as we work to make your voices heard on these important public safety issues and acquire the buoys and signage necessary to eliminate dangerously unmarked no wake zones

Our programs are a great tax deduction for donors.

For local governments and waterfront property owners / managers, keep safety in sight helps cut costs by reducing municipal law enforcement and budget resources needed to increase public safety, reducing property damage, soil erosion, accidents, injuries and fatalities on your local waterways.

Your contribution will go directly towards lobbying local, state and federal officials to implement consistent marking of no wake zones and also the purchase, acquisition and installation of signage and buoys within dangerous, unmarked no wake zones across the country. Together, we can create a safer environment for everyone who enjoys these beautiful natural resources.

Please take action by contacting your local representatives and donate today to help us make a difference! Every little bit counts, and we are grateful for your support.

No Wake Zones are rarely clearly marked on local waterways, creating a danger to public safety. Our ‘Keep Safety In Sight” not for profit, public safety initiative intends to change this through local, state and federal action implementing safety standards; while assisting them with the acquisition and installation of high-visibility signage and buoys to consistently mark no wake zones for those who utilize our waterways.
